When looking for an over the counter or OTC allergy nasal spray you may surprised by how little choice there is. Lots of possible so called remedies are only decongestants and while it’s nice not to have a blocked nose most OTC sprays have no anti-allergy action.
Especially if you are looking for a natural treatment. Lots of folks are wary of pharmaceutical drugs and prefer something they regard as safe. In the real world of course even safe natural treatments can have occasional side effects. All remedies should be chosen with care and preferably with some input from a health care expert.
One of the safest treatments is the use of a Neti Pot. These are used to flush out pollen particles and other allergens from the nose. There is discussion about whether they really flush the sinuses but people with sinus problesm report relief from using a Neti Pot. Once bought the only cost is for the salt used to make the saline solutions it uses.
Not a Nasal Spray but…
For real allergy action you might try Oxyhives. This is a homeopathic remedy and comes in a small spray bottle and is used to spray under the tongue – not in the nose! Under the tongue is a very sensitive region and can absorb medicine and other substances very fast. ![]()
Oxyhives is a mix of homeopathic ingredients such as Apis, Arnica and Rhus Tox present in very small homeopathic potencies. Do not take if you are allergic to the ingredients, worth a try otherwise. Said to be suitable for children but get expert advice for under 12s.
As usual back up specific anti allergy measures with a good background supplement of Vitamin C – one of the best anti-histamines and one of the safest too.
