Quercetin for Allergies – a Natural and Safe Home Remedy
Have you heard of the saying that if you eat an apple a day that you’ll keep the doctor away? Ages ago I looked into the nutritional value of apples and was not impressed. It looked that an apple was mostly water. Yes it had some nice fibre but very little mineral content or vitamins.
I had overlooked quercetin – a major nutritional supplement.
Quercetin 101
Quercetin was discovered by the same genius who discovered vitamin C – Albert Szent-Gyorgi. Quercetin was originally called vitamin P where the “P” stood for permeability or leakiness of the capillaries – a symptom of scurvy, cured by quercetin.
Anyhow, quercetin is not called a vitamin now but is found in Health shops along other nutritional supplements such as Grape Seed Extract and Green Tea and is commonly used in the treatment of many disorders.
Apples have lot of quercetin making them an easy way of getting a regular dose of quercetin and getting its antihistamine action. Onions too – but we don’t say, “An onion a day keeps the doctor away!”
Quercetin has demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity and antiviral activity too. Animal studies have shown quercetin to have “significant antitumour activity against a wide range of cancers..” page 325 Encyclopaedia of Nutritional Supplements, but these results have not to my knowledge been replicated yet in human studies.
In case you are wondering why I would even mention this quote in an article on allergies, I want to male it as clear as I can in a short space that this is a very serious and effective supplement and well worth using in a responsible way, especially with vitamin C.
If you have hives or asthma or food allergies, or even an inflammatory condition such as arthritis or diabetes it may well be worthwhile using quercetin along with vitamin C and I would advise asking a well trained Nutrition Doctor or practitioner to help you work out dosage to suit your individual needs.
And you might want to eat that apple as well and maybe even some onion too!

I agree… green tea will give you energy.. it is like whole wheat bread compared to the analogy of coffee.. green tea is just the best legal stimulant booster
Incredibly helpful. I love the way you write. Do you provide an RSS feed?

Hi, are there any vitamins that are alternatives to facial fillers? I have genetic under eye hollows. As an alternative to injections are there any vitamins that after a period of time taking them that can act as facial fillers? Do you have any natural remedies or suggestions? Thanks.
Difficult to answer without seeing you! Nutrition and detox will help your body boost your health and energy to a higher level. Under the eyes suggests the Stomach in energy terms and I’d check out an acupunturist/herbalist too.
All The Best
